ANC 1B Administrative Consultant Position

Location: In person presence in Washington, DC is required for events and hybrid meetings but many tasks can be completed remotely.

Compensation: $1,500 per month

Job Description:

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 1B (ANC 1B) is looking for a consultant to assist with administrative tasks and other critical support duties. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, proven administrative or assistant experience, attention to detail and problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team environment, and ability to actively discover new ways to improve organizational processes and procedures. ANCs are non-partisan, locally elected groups of representatives in the District of Columbia that provide input to the DC Council and DC agencies on issues like zoning, transportation, public safety, and liquor licenses. The consultant will assist ANC 1B which serves the communities of Columbia Heights, LeDroit Park, Pleasant Plains, Shaw, U Street, Howard University, and lower Georgia Avenue.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up the monthly ANC meetings and committee meetings (Zoom and in-person when applicable);

  • Manage Zoom during ANC monthly meetings, take minutes, and distribute meeting minutes;

  • Maintain and distribute key messages from ANC 1B mail, voicemail, email accounts, and listservs;

  • Maintain and update the ANC 1B website and make suggestions for improvements;

  • Track critical Commission-wide deadlines, such as dates relating to ABCA licenses;

  • Offer process improvements and suggestions for enhancing ANC 1B information technology infrastructure and other organizational needs;

  • Assist with other critical administrative duties, like ordering office supplies, supporting executive committee members, and facilitating special events as needed; and

  • Assist with social media, photography, video, and other digital media as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of U Street Corridor, DC Government, and ANC structures

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Squarespace, Mailchimp WordPress, Gmail, Outlook, Access, and other office programs

  • Experience with administrative processes and procedures

  • Demonstrated ability improve organizational processes and procedures

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team

  • Experience with social media
