Francois Barrilleaux

I was born and raised in Oakland, California, and moved to DC after graduating college. For more than two years, I’ve called Westminster Street home and can’t imagine living anywhere else in the District. I love our neighborhood and the incredible access it provides: from the Metro and bike infrastructure I rely on to navigate the city, to cherished local spots like All Souls Bar and Lee’s Flower Shop, to the parks, trees, and gardens that reflect the deep care and pride of our community.

Professionally, I work as a research associate at a pro-democracy legal non-profit. Outside of work, you can often find me climbing, biking, reading, or relaxing in a hammock at Meridian Hill Park. I’m deeply passionate about politics, public policy, and creating vibrant, sustainable, and transit-oriented urban environments. And for those curious about my name, it reflects my Cajun heritage—my father grew up in Louisiana and now lives in New Orleans with my mom.

As your commissioner, I’m excited to collaborate with community stakeholders, District agencies, and public officials to address challenges and find creative solutions. Our neighborhood is wonderfully engaged, and one of my top priorities is to ensure that important information is widely shared. During my two-year term, I aim to make Shaw and U Street safer, cleaner, greener, and more bike and pedestrian-friendly.

If you see me walking around the neighborhood or attending a community event, please don’t hesitate to say hello and share your ideas for how we can improve our neighborhood together.
