ANC 1B has six standing committees that consider matters important to the neighborhood on behalf of the Commission. ANC 1B’s current standing committees are:
Committee on Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Regulation (ABCR)
Committee on Transportation, Parks, and Public Spaces (TPPS)
Each standing committee meets monthly. A committee consists of a chairperson, and community members who are residents of, or who have business interests in, the Commission area. We are looking for representatives from each single-member district within ANC 1B to serve on each of the committees.
Member Interest Process
Any resident or individual with business interests in the Commission’s boundaries who wishes to serve as a voting member of a committee should apply using the above application form. Membership will be considered on a rolling basis and at the discretion of the committee chair.
Voting members of each committee are open to all residents and those with business interests in the area and are appointed at the discretion of the committee chair (with priority given to residents of the Commission). Members of a standing committee shall be appointed to serve for a one-year term or until a successor is appointed.
We are actively seeking representatives from each Single Member District and subject matter experts within the committee’s issue area. Excluding the chair, no Single Member District may represent more than 30% of any committee.
Questions regarding the application process or committee responsibilities? Please reach out to 1B@anc.dc.gov.
You may also notice something called the “Committee of the Whole” on the calendar. This is a parliamentary device for discussing matters in a less structured way than the formal debate at our monthly meetings. The Committee of the Whole comprises all nine Commissioners plus all six committee chairs. The Commission Chairperson has the authority to call meetings of the Committee of the Whole to advise the Chairperson on anticipated business at the next full Commission meeting and on the preparation of the Commission’s agenda. These meetings are merely advisory. Like all committee meetings, they are open to the public.
