Miguel Trindade Deramo
I grew up in a multi-generational household just outside Detroit, where my family had immigrated from Brazil. I first came to Washington to train as a Foreign Service Officer. After working and studying overseas, I decided to settle here in 2016 and spent several years as an intelligence analyst in the federal government. I now advocate for democratic reform in the U.S., and especially in the District — which I believe must be a national leader and set the gold standard in terms of democratic health and good government.
As a commissioner, I am eager to weave the social fabric of our neighborhood and to build our solidarity and power as a community. I love intergenerational, intercultural meeting places like our priceless Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park and I will work hard to keep them accessible, inclusive, and safe. I rely entirely on public transit and bike-share, so you can count on me to be an advocate for ever better service and more secure infrastructure.
When I’m not reading in the park, you might find me jogging with my partner, Luis, in Rock Creek, or perched with my laptop at one of my beloved local cafés. Feel free to say hi and tell me about your experience living in Meridian Hill!
