NEED TO KNOW

  • Two big things, then let's get down to how you can cast your ballot in DC. 1) Take the census! Get counted here. You have until the end of October (extended!) to complete the census. Here are some helpful FAQs2) In person learning for elementary children will begin Nov 9th. There are many asterisks that should go along with this statement. Learn more here. In short, students will be notified in late Oct if they are chosen for in-person learning and parents will opt-in or opt-out of the option.

  • VOTING IN DC 1) If you have registered before Oct 13, you will be mailed a ballot. If you choose to vote using the mail-in ballot that is automatically sent to all voters in DC (and already in the hands of many voters), you have option 1a, 1b or 1c.

  • 1a) Vote by mail ballot drop box. You may fill out the ballot in the comfort of your own home, place the ballot in the secrecy sleeve, place that in the envelope and sign and date the back. You then can drop this off at any, secure mail ballot drop box in DC

  • 1b) Vote by mail. You may complete all the same steps above, and instead of placing your ballot in the drop box, you may mail the ballot in. No postage or extra steps, simply place the ballot in your mailbox to be picked up or in the outgoing mail slot of your apartment building (yeas - you still need to sign and date the back of the envelope!).

  • 1c) Vote by dropping off at a voting center. You may complete all the same steps above, and instead of placing your ballot in the drop box or in the mail, you may bring the ballot to a voting center (early or on election day) and hand your ballot to a poll worker.

  • If you are planning to vote using either of the options above, track the status of your ballot here. You vote will count!

  • VOTING IN DC 2) You can vote early and in person. Early voting centers in DC will open for voting on October 27 and close on November 3. The early voting centers open on October 27 can be found here.

  • VOTING IN DC 3) You can vote in person on election day which is November 3. There will be even more voting centers open on election day. Voting centers open on November 3 can be found here.

  • Testing wait times. We continue to see about 2 days turnaround for results. Recently, testing sites are seeing an increase in activity due to the White House outbreak. It is understood many are getting tested to be safe. Get tested.

GOOD NEIGHBOR TIP OF THE WEEK

  • Plan a visit to a new Farmers' Market. This is always a great way to support our local farmers, artists and more. I have been venturing into different neighborhoods, new adjacent neighborhoods and more to find some fun new gems! I hope you will do the same, with a mask and at a social distance. I hope you find the little things that make you smile today!

  • Oh, and wear a mask. All the time.

One of the great mail ballot drop boxes in ANC 1B! This one is located outside the Reeves Center on 14th & U St. Make your voting plan today.

Stay safe. Stay home if you can. Thanks for reading! Follow us at @ANC1B.
