NEED TO KNOW

  • Opportunities to get tested are increasing by the day. Here is a great resource for online testing. Here are the updated guidelines for DC. How do you think DC is doing on testing? We are still averaging just over 500 tests / day. Been at this rate for a few weeks now.

  • From a call I joined with the 3rd District MPD: Two open homicide cases (pre-stay@home) closed. 100 block of N St & 2900 Sherman Ave. Want details? Send me a note. Also of note, MPD's priority is to educate folks not following social distancing guidelines, not to make arrests. Call if you see groups and our officers will do their duty.

  • DC is still eating take-out (and so am I)!! A great new list I came across has been informing my most recent, and always local, decisions. Know a restaurant not featured? We can help.

  • Alright folks, lets say it together - give the people a break. Wash Sports Club finally did.

  • The DC Economic Recovery Team (DERT) - clever - is asking for your input on how to best prioritize when preparing for the 'new normal'. I have thoughts, and I know you do too. Share them.

  • ANC 1B will host our May 7th meeting virtually. Stay tuned in future newsletters for more information and agendas.

COVID-19 UPDATES

  • The first round of Sidewalk Extensions are here, and some are better than others. Notify us, your ANC Commissioners, if you have information or ideas for new extensions. We continue to work with DDOT to establish a process for requests and to share which streets are eligible.

  • All outdoor markets are (finally!) enforcing social distancing.

  • Ben's Chili Bowl got some love over the last week. We love them too! We need adequate funding, and we need it now.

  • Speaking of adequate funding, what happened to getting DC the relief money it deserves? Still under debate. And so is the $$ for everyone.

ANC 1B NEIGHBORHOOD PHOTO OF THE WEEK

NEIGHBORHOOD BY THE NUMBERS

  • Pictured above: DC Census reporting! As a whole, the district has reported 50.3%. That's not enough! Get counted today.

  • When compared to this time last year, crime is down 23%. Crimes that do happen at this time? They are resulting in a higher rate of arrests made. Keep staying home DC. There are always silver linings.

ANC 1B SMALL BIZ OF THE WEEK
Pattern Sample Sew. Decided to switch it up this week and throw some love to a business a little outside the ANC 1B area - and one that is doing great work. Pattern Sample Sew has switched gears to churn out masks, while maintaining their attention to detail. Need a mask, or know someone who does? Check them out!

ONE LAST THING

  • As promised in the 'photo of the week' above, your history lesson on Blagden Alley. Among all its history from 1800 - 1996, it was in that year ('96) that the Alley was rezoned from residential to commercial. The new era of alley biz was born, and the traditional alley bootstrap culture somewhat lives on.
